Behind the Seams: A Gown for a New Era

After living in the Boston area for over seven years, moving back to Maine felt like closing the curtain on one chapter and preparing for a whole new act. Boston had been a whirlwind of performance attire design, late-night escapades, and moments of creative discovery. But as I packed up my life and tucked it neatly away into storage (figuratively and literally), I knew I’d need a project to keep my hands busy and my mind focused—a way to process this transition while embracing a new beginning.

The solution? A gown. Not just any gown, though—a finale piece to mark the end of one era and the dawn of another. This wouldn’t be something crafted to perform but rather something created to showcase.

Inspired by the Victorian era’s dramatic silhouettes and unapologetic extravagance, I envisioned a dress fit for royalty. It’s all in the details: opulent textures, regal flair, and a detachable train that would make even Marie Antoinette say, “Yes, queen!” (Or maybe, oui, reine?)

For months now, I’ve been meticulously working on the body of the gown, and as 2024 comes to a close, I’m diving into the final touches—detachable train, lace gloves, and a veil that whispers elegance. This project is more than just a dress; it’s my passion project, a symbol of rebirth, and my creative therapy since returning to Maine.

Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs

Let’s be real: 2024 has been a “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” kind of year. I lost myself in my surroundings, a previous relationship, and the chaos of change. But when the dust settled, I landed back in Maine—a bit bruised, but ready to rebuild. This gown is my way of stitching myself back together, piece by piece, while manifesting the life I want to lead.

Looking ahead to 2025, my focus is clear: regrowth and rebirth. I’m determined to follow my rightful path—one that leads to garden-to-table meals, quality time with my “children” (read: pets and plants), and a sense of purpose that feels earned and undeniable.

Balancing Passion and Reality

Of course, the biggest challenge in all of this is time management. Working an 8-5 retail job is no joke—by the end of the day, I’m often too exhausted to give my creative projects the attention they deserve. But as the saying goes, if there’s a will, there’s a way. And trust me, there’s plenty of will here.

So, here’s to late nights, early mornings, and every stolen moment in between spent bringing this vision to life. Below, you’ll find some behind-the-seams footage and images of the process so far.

Stay tuned for updates—2025 is shaping up to be the year of transformation, triumph, and a gown fit for the royal court.
